ALBUM REVIEW: 'PUNSIHER' - PHOEBE BRIDGERS

Phoebe Bridgers 'Punisher' Review: Confident To A Staggering ...

RATING: 9.5/10

So haunting. So beautiful. Sadness in the most nostalgic and romantic way. I’ve always described her music as nostalgic. Her debut brings me the growing up in a small town and missing the people you no longer talk to vibes. This one is for the longing heartbreak caused by people who are still in your life. Bridgers said this album is about being the broken one and finding people who are willing to accept that messy complicated part of you, and it captures flawlessly the beauty of becoming that kind of person.

This record also reminds me a lot about grief, but only when I’ve reached the acceptance stage. Songs like "Savior Complex" is an ode to the longing part of us to crawl out of depression hole while loving someone who is as broken as you, and "Kyoto" is about resenting a person who has done so much for you. It's grief in the form of music. Essentially, it’s okay to grieve even if you can’t pinpoint the reason why for your sadness. This is what the whole album feels like to me.

Songwriting is bridgers’ ultimate strength. And it seems like she will only keep getting better. She is definitely one of the few interesting artists to keep an eye on for many years to come.
