People often talk about physical abuse but we rarely hear of mental abuse. I'm gonna be bringing out this topic today. “Psychological abuse, often called emotional abuse, is a form of abuse, characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another person to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronic depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder.” This is the definition of mental abuse if you look up the definition on google.

Mental abuse is rarely talked about because most victims don't speak up about it and people don't take it seriously as it is something that we cannot see, it is something that we do not understand because unlike a physical abuse where you can see the bruises, you can see the wounds, mental abuse is something that is happening inside of you. We do not know of it and we are not aware of it. Most victims aren’t even aware that they’re being abused, mentally. Hence, why it is not talked about. So how do you identify this type of abuse? It is when you occasionally receive harsh words that lead to you feeling insulted and wounded. Where you always have to hold yourself back from doing something and its making you feel like you're walking on eggshells because you're afraid of the other person’s reaction. It hinders your growth, it drains out your energy and you lose yourself in the process.

Just because we can't see it, just because we don't see bruise doesn't mean it's not abuse. Mental abuse is just as bad as physical abuse.
